EPA Takes Action to Eliminate Animal Testing

The agency has updated approved testing tools and opened a new process for scientific method submissions.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced updates to its list of approved New Approach Methods (NAMs), which serve as alternatives to traditional animal testing in chemical and pesticide evaluations. The agency added 13 new methods, including approaches that use human cell models, computer‑based tools, and other laboratory techniques to assess potential health effects.

“With today’s announcement, we’re accelerating the shift to modern, gold‑standard science—without the use of animal testing—by using new, innovative methods to review chemicals,“ said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. “By broadening high‑quality alternatives and inviting strong new candidates, we can deliver faster, more protective decisions while reducing animal testing.”

The agency also launched a new process allowing researchers, companies, and other stakeholders to nominate additional scientific methods for EPA consideration. Under the program, EPA scientists will evaluate proposed approaches for scientific reliability, transparency, and suitability for regulatory use.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For EPA Administrator Zeldin as he oversees the review and updating of evaluating criteria.
  • For EPA scientists and researchers as they assess scientific methods and chemical safety information.
  • For U.S. environmental officials as they work on alternative testing and chemical safety methods.
